Our challenge... The pace of arrivals has picked up a great deal: in just two recent months, TRPO welcomed 24 newcomers, including 3 families with 8 children. By comparison, 36 people arrived over the previous 18 months.
New arrivals cannot all be housed in volunteers' homes, as was done for earlier arrivals. To accommodate the newcomers, especially families, TRPO has begun to rent apartments (2 so far, housing 6 people each).
How much does TRPO need? A three-bedroom apartment costs about $1,300 a month. TRPO covers the newcomers' rent for the first 3 months, until they can support themselves. We are likely to need 4 such apartments. This will require $15,600. The government does not provide any resettlement funding.

Why donate? To help stateless Tibetans start a new life in Canada. Ottawans have contributed very generously to achieve this goal, and we are very grateful. The two dozen adults already settled in Ottawa by TRPO are all working and supporting themselves in their own rented apartments. They are actively helping their fellow Tibetan newcomers. This appeal is for newly emerging needs.
How to donate...
- Online: You can easily make a donation and receive a tax receipt online via CanadaHelps (https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/the-catholic-centre-for-immigrants-foundation/). Below the "Donation Amount", please select Tibetan Resettlement Project Ottawa (TRPO) in the pull-down menu.
- Cheques: Make your cheque out to CCI Foundation. Please add the words Tibetan Project in the memo field. Clearly indicate your name and address to receive the tax receipt. Send the cheque to CCI Foundation, 219 Argyle Avenue, 5th Floor, Ottawa, ON K2P 2H4.
